The Wine:
The 2023 season was the coldest on record for Tolpuddle. These cooler conditions combined with a wet winter that lead into flowering resulted in hen and chicken (bunches with a combination of small and normal size grapes) keeping overall yields low. What does this me for you and I? Unfortunately, much less wine. The Chardonnay was more affected than the Pinot, with the later part of the vintage possessing near perfect conditions, resulting in lovely fruit development right through to harvest.

David Matters' View:
"If you know this wine well, it's everything you'd expect and more. The low yields this year have amped up the concentration of flavour another notch. In short: it is powerful and complex, with textured layers of flavour including grapefruit and lemon pith as well as sublime acidity that will carry this wine through a very long life, if you can stop yourself from drinking it, that is. No doubt an Aussie Grand Cru Chardonnay."

The Review:
Huon Hooke, The Real Review - 97pts
"Bright medium-light yellow colour; smoky charcuterie, struck flint and toasted hazelnuts to sniff. The wine is intense, focused and very long on the palate. Piercing lemon/citrus flavours, fresh and balanced acidity driving it long and promising a big future if cellared, although it's a great drink right now. An outstanding chardonnay."
